The United States Stamp Society (USSS) is one of the leading philatelic organizations devoted specifically to the study, research, and collecting of United States stamps and related postal material. Founded in 1926 as the Philatelic Plate Number Association, the organization became the Bureau Issues Association in 1930 and adopted its current name in 2000. In 2026, the Society celebrates its 100th anniversary, representing a century of organized research into U.S. philately. The USSS encourages serious philatelic research while welcoming collectors with a broad range of interests and experience. Its areas of study include classic and modern U.S. postage stamps, plate numbers and markings, booklet and coil stamps, revenues, postal stationery, Washington-Franklin issues, Presidential issues, registered mail, tagging, printing varieties, and other specialized aspects of U.S. stamp production and postal history. A major part of the Society's educational mission is its monthly journal, The United States Specialist, which publishes original research, discoveries, collecting information, and specialized studies. The organization also supports numerous committees and study groups, publishes specialized philatelic literature, recognizes significant research and service through awards, and maintains resources for collectors and researchers. Its president is Nicholas A. Lombardi.
