GRUCOMI

About Organization

GRUCOMI, the Mining Research Collectors Group, is an initiative that arose from a group of mining enthusiasts and collectors who, in December 1996, organized an exhibition in Sama de Langreo as a tribute to the Fondón Mine in Hunosa, which had then been converted into a Historical Document Archive. The following year, an exhibition was organized (by the Oviedo Philatelic and Numismatic Group) to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Hunosa, and the idea of forming an association began to take shape. To this end, statutes were drawn up and the group was given formal status, registering it in the Principality's Register of Associations and in the Asturian and Spanish federations of philatelic societies (FASFIL and FESOFI), as well as in the Municipal Register of Associations of Oviedo. Mining provides an opportunity to build up fascinating collections of stamps, coins, banknotes, photos, books, maps, shares, calendars, stickers, lamps, trinkets, fossils, minerals, etc., which not only play a very important role in leisure time, but are also becoming auxiliary branches of history and even technology. It is no coincidence that many of today's museums and collections exist thanks to collectors. Other objectives of GRUCOMI include the exchange of experiences, teaching, documentation, dialogue, and the promotion of collecting.
